Through Schools, make the Internet a Community Development Platform.
The School Internet Page-an ICT Tool
The School Internet Page is Uganda’s innovative turn Round tool to be used to move Uganda’s development to the fastest pace possible without segregation of who is who-this is free skills training for all Ugandans as long as they have stepped in School. Essentially, this is an innovative “soft copy” on the website www.lotsbusinesslinks.com/uganda specifically designed to help a browser easily access vital summary information on Ugandan institutions and at the same time showcase viable model enterprises both agricultural or other small/medium enterprises. The products from these enterprises such as a heifer, a sow, pineapples, mangoes, mathematical sets, exercise books, pens and others are offered-produced from that community or across as promotional items for a raffle so that both the browser and the promoter of the product can benefit.
While the young browser is exposed to the many products and services exhibited for sale to the market from within the community he/she resides in, he/she acquires internet and computer skills through accessing internet pages as well; the farmer/entrepreneur exhibits his/her products to the market which is an ideal marketing strategy for the vast local market, the strategy is penetrative and provides the growth potential for commercial agriculture and other enterprises as well as exposure of the browser to so many easy to click Organisation logos whose hyperlinks go to their websites.
The main features of the School Internet Page
As can be seen from the attached copy, the following are the main features of the page:
- Sponsor’s logo (s) where there are two sponsors like the one below, that has both the right and left side with clickable logos to their respective websites.
- Summary Information on the school location, School leadership, Student leadership, academic performance in recent years, student enrolment and school notice board.
- Drop down box that contains the names of product promoters, the products/raffle items for one to choose-promoted and the telephone numbers for contact to the market
- A school Badge/Logo-this may click to the School Website where it exists
- Questions’ area where browsers of the page are expected to click through the logo hyperlinks, read the contents of the website and answer the simple set questions in a given text box to appreciate what is explained in the website-this is what qualifies them to win the raffle items of their choice during access to the School Internet Page.
In addition, this website exhibits other brand logos that act as hyperlinks to websites of Ugandan organizations namely; Government Ministries, departments, District portals, reputed Non Governmental organizations and private Companies.
Access to information from this websites is made easier by just clicking the logos. This solves the problem of the need to type coined search strings in the search engines like yahoo.com, Google.com etc, type the hard to remember domain names in the address bar of the browser, or, memorize the domain names. As long as the one recognizes the logo/picture, it is common sense to click and access the information. |
